Casa Martino, Cala Liberotto, Sardinia

Any child old enough to read this website will be able to picture, tip toeing down through the pretty, pine shaded gardens of Casa Martino, passing through the gateway and then running at full tilt, over the powder white sands and into the turquoise sea. In our youth, before swimming pools became fashionable, we all had our Robinson Crusoe dreams and whether you're five or fifty-five, we think you will find this place cuts the mustard, especially in the early mornings when the beach is tranquil and deserted!

Let us be clear that Casa Martino is not a grass hut or a tree house, but a chic first floor holiday apartment in Sardinia and semi-detached with the villa next door. Nevertheless it's still pretty magical as you will probably discover, when you're sitting comfortably with a cool drink at the bewitching little table overlooking the beach in the picture above.

Behind green wrought iron gates, a shady vine covered driveway leads to Casa Martino, which is shielded by pine trees and set well back from the small lane that runs behind the beach front in this fashionable area of Cala Liberotto with its Sardinian villas & holiday apartments

Stairs to the side of the Apartment lead up to a spacious terrace at first floor level with patio furniture, plus a large umbrella and wonderful views of the sea between the pine trees. For most of the summer months the terrace is the favourite venue for breakfast, lunch and dinner and at night, the gentle murmur of waves breaking on the sand, makes a romantic accompaniment to even the simplest of meals.

From the terrace, sliding patio doors lead into a modern and attractive open plan living room with a lounge area to one side with a simple sofa and easy chairs. On the far side of the room, beyond a pine dining table and chairs, is a smart fitted kitchenette complete with, fridge-freezer, 4 ring gas hob and oven plus a washing machine.

Beyond the archway to the rear of the living room and sharing a smart shower room are a spacious and comfortable double bedroom, plus a smaller twin bedroom suitable for children, with slightly narrow beds. Both bedrooms have patio doors to a shared terrace with picturesque views over the rear garden and pine trees to the distant mountains.

Off the living area an open staircase with no hand rail leads up to the very low eaves, of the house where you'll find a useful, but almost Lilliputian guest toilet.

The path down through the garden is bordered by pretty raised flowerbeds and just before the gate is a convenient outside shower. Nearby you'll find the delightful shady terrace with patio table and chairs, whilst back towards the house is a covered barbecue area and you can hardly fail to notice the huge bush of sweet smelling rosemary and some handy sprigs of mint.

Casa Martino is 500 metres from the nearest restaurants, small mini market and shops in Cala Liberotto. There's also a larger supermarket and further restaurants and pizzerias in Sos Alinos 1.5km distant.

The Sardinian owner's, Martino and Bruna use the ground floor apartment as their Holiday apartment in Sardinia from time to time during the summer months. Please do note that the garden on the beach side and all its facilities are at all times shared with them, when they are in residence.

Safety Note: As the stairs to the eaves have no balustrade and the low ceiling is a hazard to the unwary head, the owners have asked us to point out that clients using the facilities of the guest toilet do so at their own risk!

15 minutes drive from Orosei and 5 minutes from Fuile Mare is the small laid-back resort of Cala Liberotto with a few modest hotels plus a number of restaurants and pizzerias as well as two rustic beach side cantinas serving ice creams, cold drinks and simple meals. Fragrant pinewoods fringe the beautiful, white sand beaches with villas nestling in their shade.
